AV-8B Block Upgrade Awarded to Indra
June 18, 2007 (Winter Park, Florida, USA) -- Indra Systems, Inc., a leading provider of
flight simulators and training systems, announced today that it has been awarded a contract to upgrade all five U.S. Weapons System Trainers (WSTs)
for the U.S. Marine Corps' AV-8B Harrier aircraft. This contract, with a total value of almost $23M and a period of performance reaching into early
2011, was competed as a delivery order under the U.S. Navy's Training Systems Contract II (TSC II) vehicle.
"We're pleased to have an opportunity to work with the Marines and the Navy again on these
trainers, and this overarching contract will allow us to incorporate needed commonality across the USMC AV-8B trainer fleet," said Brent W. York,
Indra's Director of Simulation.
Modifications to be made to the AV-8B WSTs under this contract include code rehosting,
new image generators, new instructor/operator station hardware and software, upgraded cockpits, new display systems, and concurrency with the
real aircraft's configuration. Upgrades will be performed on the existing devices at the Marine Corps Air Stations (MCAS) at Cherry Point,
North Carolina, and Yuma, Arizona.
Indra has a long history supporting the USMC's AV-8B training programs. Since the early 1990s,
Indra has been providing technology upgrades on each of the same five devices covered by this new contract. Indra also developed and delivered
portable AV-8B simulation devices for the USMC for use in radar procedures training. Currently, Indra is providing on-site support to Naval Air
Systems Command's In-Service Engineering Office (ISEO) for maintenance of the AV-8B WSTs, and is performing upgrades to the Spanish Navy's and the
Italian Navy's AV-8B flight trainers. Indra's selection for award of these AV-8B trainer programs is a testament to the worldwide acknowledgement
of Indra's leading position in AV-8B simulation and ability to provide all types of military aviation training devices.
